Sponsoring Agencies

Many individuals and agencies have come together to create Disaster READY Training for students. All have in common a goal that every Coloradan will be ready for any disaster, and a vision that youth can help make that happen. We know that teens everywhere are making a difference and getting involved in many social responsibility issues, and are excited to offer this teen-targeted training.

The training program is sponsored by READYColorado, the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security, and the City and County of Denver on behalf of the Denver Urban Area Security Initiative. Participation in the training is provided at no charge to the attendee.  Funding for the program is provided by a FEMA/U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant.

Citizen Corps is FEMA’s grassroots strategy to bring together citizens, community leaders, and government in all-hazard emergency preparedness and resilience.  “Get Prepared, Get Trained, and Get Involved,” summarize the messages Citizen Corps programs are asking communities throughout the U.S. to embrace and implement in their lives.

The Denver UASI partnership includes twenty-four cities, counties and fire districts. Since the inception of Denver UASI, millions of dollars have been spent equipping and training first responders.

The South Metro Fire Rescue Authority’s mission is directly linked to the programs offered by the Life Safety Education Unit. We strive to proactively engage with our communities to provide the best protection of lives and property through prevention and education in an attempt to reduce the occurrence of fires and injuries. As part of the Community Safety Services model, education is one of the “4 E’s” in community risk reduction: Engineering – Education – Enforcement – Evaluation. This model allows for collaboration among all Authority bureaus to successfully address the prevention and education needs of the community. Four full-time Life Safety Education positions are supported by the Authority, which provide numerous fire and life safety programs targeted for all age groups.
